A parliament house used by the Lycian League (circa 500 BC) was discovered among the ruins of the ancient city of Patara recently.
The Lycian League was mentioned twice in the the Federalist Papers written by some of the architects of the Constitution of the United States, and the league is considered one of the blueprints for the representative republican government the founders set in place.
Inside the ruins of the ancient parliament building, archaeologists found rows of seats in semi-circle formation much like the seating pattern found in the chambers of the United States Congress.
